This session was everything I love about photographing families - relaxed, real and full of the little moments that make life so beautiful.
I spent the morning with a lovely family of four: Mum, Dad, their energetic four-year-old boy and their brand-new baby. We started the session calmly in the living room, easing into things with some natural, gently guided shots - nothing too posed, just the family being together, soaking in those newborn cuddles and big brother smiles. This part of the session always helps everyone settle and feel comfortable, and the result is something soft, honest and full of emotion.
After that, we moved into one of my favourite parts of any family session - an activity together. This time it was decorating gingerbread men, which couldn't have been more perfect. I always encourage families to do something they might naturally do together - whether it's baking, gardening, a board game or even just sharing a cup of tea. It brings out real interactions, real giggles, real moments -and those are the things that matter. These types of activities create such lovely memories and the photos that come from them are always full of genuine connection and joy.
Next, we stepped outside. This family are lucky enough to live near a beautiful pond, so even though a light drizzle had started, we headed out for a few photos in front of the water. A little rain never hurts. We then headed back indoors where their little boy proudly invited me into his bedroom - and I was very impressed with his incredible indoor basketball net! He showed me his best shots (and nailed quite a few!) I captured some fun, personality-filled images of him playing. This kind of moment is so special - it's such a reflection of who he is right now, and what lights him up at this age. That kind of memory will mean the world to look back on.
To finish the session, the favourite dress-up outfits were selected. First up: Batman! Then: a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle! It was absolutely adorable, and again, such a great way to document his interests, imagination, and playful spirit in this stage of life. If your little one has a favourite toy, costume or hobby - let me know! I'd love to help capture that part of their personality in our session together!
All throughout the session, we also captured those gentle, precious moments between big brother and baby brother - soft kisses on the head, helping to bottle feed for the first time...tiny, quiet moments that hold a lifetime of meaning.
This is why I love photography. My goal is to create images that feel like little time capsules - photographs that reflect not just how your family looked at this time, but how it felt. The cuddles, the play, the personalities, the calm, the chaos and the love. The simple joys of everyday life, captured and preserved to be remembered forever.
